Read The Story Behind The Print
I waited for these massive giants of Etosha to slowly walk towards me.
I was slightly nervous as I had never photograph these individuals before and was not quite sure how they would react to my close presence. As they approached, they were relaxed and calmed, in turn, I relaxed and was calm.. we in a few moments the Bull Elephants had passed.
It was an unforgettable and exhilarating moment and a beautiful wildlife print.
Elephant Matriarch | Stunning Black and White Wall Decor
I hadn't noticed her at first as she had her back to us,
My chest began to beat faster, my senses where heightened, excitement washed over me. I had always wanted to photograph an elephant with long tusks, and I always assumed it would be a male. The Matriarch had the longest tusks I had ever seen on a female elephant.
It is the most amazing and humbling experience to be in such proximity to an elephant herd. The elephants were all around us, and they were relaxed, and so where we.
The moment I had hoped for, silently began to unfold in front of me, I was worried about not having enough focal length, I turned the camera to portrait and breathed a sigh of relief — just enough room within the frame.
The Matriarch turned towards me, we were eye to eye, as she reached for another bunch of grass. One of my guests, let a small yelp of delight as a baby elephant reached their trunk towards her. The Matriarch reacted by extending ears; at that moment all the elements needed to create a compelling portrait came together, the Matriarch was front on, eye to eye, ears out, trunk slight curled at the tip, I held my breath, and pressed the shutter. I breathed a sigh of both relief and joy.
One of the most stunning black and white animal portraits.
Elephants in the Mist, Black and White Art Print
Beautiful Black and White Art Print of two Bull Elephants grazing under an acacia tree, Masai Mara sunrise.
Masai Mara is one of the popular wildlife photography destinations in the world. If you have ever been to this amazing wildlife area you will understand. The Masai Mara has the most plentiful and array of wild animals in Africa. The Masai Mara is a massive area of grasslands but there are areas where trees are found. It was one of these areas that I happened upon at sunrise as we drove on our morning safari. Two bull elephants grazing around close to acacia trees. It was just a matter of time for the elephants to turn sideways to make a pleasing silhouette.

African Elephants | Wildlife Print | Best Wall Art
This is one of my favourite wildlife prints of elephants. I love elephants, and I think most people do. So I was a bit frustrated when after a week I could not find this herd. It was on my last day of safari when I came upon them. I was annoyed as I could see from a distance they were leaving a waterhole. But it turned out to be a very serendipitous moment as they turned and walked in my direction. The waterhole was at a higher vantage point than I was. Which meant I could bet this unique point of view. * The most amazing black and white prints for sale.
*In Etosha the skies in winter are dull and grey .. I decided to enhance the unusual pose by adding an incredible sky to compliment my vision.
Queen of the Mara Series
Yesterday I received news that my wonderful "Queen of the Mara" has passed away due to natural causes.
As sad as this news may be, it's the circle of life, Her daughter "The Matriarch" will carry and pass on her mother's genes.
It was an amazing experience to have photographed this Queen and to have captured her spirit and essence that will be preserved forever as a fine art print
Queen of the Mara Series | Elephant Long Tusks, Large Wall Art
The Matriarch and her family graze on the African savannah, it is hot and humid. The clouds roll in, and the oncoming storm will offer respite from the heat. The Matriarch has the most impressive tusks that I have ever seen on a female Elephant. She is calm and serene and pleasure to be in her company: a stunning black and white art print.
"Tsar" Elephant Bull Masai Mara

Bonds of Love | Cute Baby Elephant | Most Beautiful Wall Art
There is something magical and beautiful when you observe elephants. It touches your soul and pulls at your heartstrings.
Like humans, elephants create bonds that last a lifetime, they are capable of showing emotions from love to anger.
Elephants are very protective of their young, in times of a threat, the family will close ranks, and the young are pushed to the middle, loud calls will be trumpeted, ears will flap as the herd protect the most vulnerable, in this situation, a bull elephant was trying to separate the baby from its mother. A shriek from the newborn elephant and instantly all the herd surrounded the baby, reached out their trunks to reassure the newborn that it was safe and secure creating a bond of love that will last forever.
Elephant Tenderness | Bonds of Love Series | Fine Art

Kalahari Black-maned Lion | Fine-Art Print
When you are alone, and in the presence of a Kalahari black mane lion, a primaeval fear takes hold of you. Even though you tell yourself "you're safe" you can not totally shake this feeling. It's there lodged in the back of your mind.
This majestic animal once was the bane of forefathers who lived on this land. They created kraals around their dwellings to keep their families and livestock safe.
When you are a few meters from this killing machine, and his predatory eyes lock with yours, you will be chilled to the bone.
Lion and Lioness | Weathering the Tempest | African Wildlife Prints
Weathering the Tempest
To create beautiful fine-art prints that connect with the viewer is more complicated than it sounds. My style of photography has always been about raw emotion, something pulling at my heartstrings, a sense of euphoria and adrenaline coursing through my veins.
When we happened upon this wonderful Lion and Lioness in the heart of the Masai Mara, my body went into overdrive. My heart is pounding and telling me that this scene in front of me will make a beautiful wildlife print. I calm myself and look at all the elements in front of me and arrange them to create a beautiful photograph.
The lions will play lead roles, but it is the other details that will make or break this image. Telling a story in a single picture is extremely difficult but essential. I chose not to get too close to the lions, using a wider lens than usual to include the savannah with the hills and storm clouds as a backdrop. This perspective will show the vastness of the Mara, giving the viewer a wonderful sense of place. The brooding storm clouds create a dramatic sky, giving texture and a three-dimensional feel to the photo.
The lone tree anchors the background and leads your eye through the image. The lion is looking out of the frame; and asks the question, what has gotten the lions attention?
The lioness is lying down after a bout of mating, her eyes are open and looking directly at the viewer.
There are many elements within this wildlife photograph. Capturing the image is only half the story, the real magic happens in the digital darkroom where once more my heartstrings are pulled.
The excitement and raw emotion I felt photographing I translate from colour to monochrome. Without colour leading the viewer's eye, I have to use a tonal range of light and shadow to walk the viewer through the photograph so that all the elements play their vital role in creating an engaging black and white art print.
Kalahari Black-maned Lion | Framed Wall Art
The Kalahari Lions of Tswalu
The Kalahari black-maned Lion is named Norman, not a very exciting name, he and his brother well actually cousin called Zwaai were a very successful coalition at Addo Game Reserve in South Africa.
Norman was born in June 2008 in Addo, Zwaai in August 2008, same Father called Jack but different mother.
In 2010 Gibson and Melvin and were born to the same father Jack.
These two coalitions Norman and Zwaai, Melvin and Gibson when they became of age became enemies. Each coalition tried to become the dominant coalition.
in 2019 Norman and Zwaai were relocated to Tswalu in the Kalahari, to help widen the lion gene pool. Later that year Melvin and Gibson were relocated to Tswalu too.
What was very surprising, everyone expected the coalitions to resume their rivalry. But instead, they formed a coalition of four. From enemies to friends.

Kalahari Black-maned Lions | Cassius and Cub | Bond for Life
A moment of tenderness between a cub and father, a moment that will bond them for life.
Lion Brothers
Coalition Lions
Often lions will ally to rule over a territory. These males are often related; the size of these coalitions can vary from two and up to seven males.
Bonding within these coalitions is very important as it cements the relationship. These coalitions stand a better chance of taking over a pride especially if a pride of lion has only one male in charge.

A dazzle of Zebra Series Pt1 | Africa Wildlife Fine-Art Prints
I am intrigued by Zebra, and I love to photograph them. These Dazzle of Zebra were photographed at Etosha National Park, Namibia. One of my favourite destinations.
The Zebra were making their way to a waterhole. But between them and the waterhole were a pride of lions. It's typical for the Stallion of the herd to be in front and to lead the way. Followed closely by the mares and the foals. They will only move when he does. They will often stand for long periods. And wait till the danger goes away or they will turn around and take a different or a longer route to another waterhole.

Elephant | Contemplation | Black and White Art
I was on Photographic Safari with clients in Masai Mara, Kenya. The day was overcast and the lighting subdued. I notice this Elephant ambling on a hill in the distance. The Elephant seemed content to be on her own. I decided that this scene would make a great Black and White Art Photo of the elephant a the grassy ridge. The soft glow of the afternoon sun creates an ethereal feeling of contemplation or maybe isolation.

Old Bull Elephant | Black and White Large Wall Art
Massive Bull Elephant ambles towards me; I cannot believe how big he is.. he towers above my 4x4, he passes with feet of me, silently and peacefully.
I love the other elephant on the edge of Etosha pan in this image it adds depth and scale.
This would make the most fantastic signature piece as Large Wall Art in any home or office
Old Elephant Bull | Large Wall Art
Old Bull Elephant
I remember looking at Rembrandt's self-portraits as he aged. He didn't airbrush or hide any of his creases wrinkles blemishes or frailty from the ravishes of time.
Time is no friend of any species even this Old Bull Elephant. His ragged ears, broken tusks, worn down teeth will eventually be his death sentence.
But don't feel sad for once he was King and ruled this vast land. Many paths bear his mark as he wandered far and wide from herd to herd. When this mighty Bull eventually departs this world his offspring will be his legacy and his spirit will live on forever.

Giraffes | African Wildlife | Fine Art Canvas
I realised the potential to this image with the "S shape stream on the edge of the pan. I waited for hours for an exciting subject to complete my vision.
These giraffes I saw a few hours before and 30kms away.. they walked this distance to quench their thirst.
I surmised that they faced opposite directions... "protection".. each could see the opposite direction...as this is a prime ambush area for lions...who would lie in the grasses close by to kill animals as they drink...
Tower of Giraffes Stop and Stare | Wildlife Photography Prints
Tower of Giraffes Stop and Stare
This is one of my favourite monochrome fine art Giraffe prints. I sometimes struggle composition wise with giraffes. But on this particular day, the Giraffes were terrific models. Each Giraffe seems to have his or her signature pose. A portrait photographer could not have wished for more. I was so thankful. I had the easy job of clicking the shutter. A wonderful wild animal portrait in black and white.
This is one of my best selling black and white art print, and that's all down to this beautiful giraffe family. Thank you.

Big Foot
Mapungubwe game reserve. 6 am It's freezing. The day has not started well. I am sitting at a hide hoping to get images of Mapungubwes elusive wildlife. I have forgotten my flask of coffee and then a sudden realization that I also have forgotten my short lens. To say I was a little irritated would be an understatement.
Soon a big herd of elephants arrive within 20 meters of the hide. At my disposal is a 600mm telephoto lens with this dilemma of too much glass. I decided to concentrate on getting close up shots of the elephants, the tusk, the eye, tail, and this "Bigfoot". Beautiful Elephant Wildlife Prints.

I could not believe my luck finding them again…I managed to capture some of my best elephant images ever.

I am always amazed by the love and protection that an elephant family shows to their young. No matter what or where they venture the young are surrounded by the older family members. If anyone comes between the young and family .. all hell will break loose and chances are the intruder will be chased away, badly injured or killed.
